The one thing I did notice was that each book seemed to have it's own agenda. That was kind of nice, and kind of not nice. So maybe that's part of why book 3 was so frustrating for me? I hadn't been expecting the whole angels/death/harpy thing.

Aaanyway :)Creative Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02960292977608812418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3098792857158424787.post-57878627047653277242009-03-09T18:27:00.000-07:002009-03-09T18:27:00.000-07:00Hi Creative A, I enjoyed book 1 and 2 of HIS DARK ...Hi Creative A, I enjoyed book 1 and 2 of HIS DARK MATERIALS the best. I enjoyed 3, but I couldn't always follow what Pullman was doing with it, so I know exactly what you mean about the plotting. He apparently paralleled Milton's Paradise Lost, somewhat.Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12588164536314320479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3098792857158424787.post-46790382385910750132009-03-09T12:50:00.000-07:002009-03-09T12:50:00.000-07:00I though you were quitting imitatively or at least...I though you were quitting imitatively or at least shortly after your announcement. I really like what you said, and I agree. I think a lot of people don't plan on subsequent books but get nudged into it, and then struggle to find more material in what was a finished item. I'm also a believer in clear endings and beginnings, so you have my support there :Creative Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02960292977608812418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3098792857158424787.post-70088605414040029772009-03-08T15:45:00.000-07:002009-03-08T15:45:00.000-07:00I enjoyed your assessment. I loved the first book, THE DARK MIRROR, and found numerous faults in the second and third book, for many of the reasons you cite. I expected the story to conclude with Book 3, but after finishing, realized there's at least one more Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12588164536314320479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3098792857158424787.post-89928395902879388142009-03-08T09:54:00.000-07:002009-03-08T09:54:00.000-07:00I think the biggest problem is lack of planning/fo...I think the biggest problem is lack of planning/foresight. The author never expected to write more than one book and so like a bad sitcom/soap writer he keeps churning out more stuff.

I am a big believer in stories having clear beginnings and endings. They anchor your story. As yourself, if this really a trilogy? Could it be done in two books or maybe in a short story compilation?
