Picture Inspiration #1 - Night

So remember how I wanted to start incorporating other interests of mine into this blog? This picture post series is one way I've decided to do that.

I'm focusing on night because, quite frankly, these summer nights are enchanting. More than once I've come home from a long day, ready to stumble inside and pass out for the evening, but when I step outside my car--I just stop. I take a deep breath. I grab my camera and go take pictures of the moon or the fireflies, and often as not, I sit down on the lawn and just soak in the night. And it's been inspiring my writing. (Every one of my past three short stories have been set at night. I just realized this today. Oops.)

So here are a few things--pictures (of mine), quotes, songs--that just make me want to breathe deep and start writing.

"These woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

-- Robert Frost

"It is rather exciting to write by moonlight."

-- Dodie Smith

"If I lose the light of the sun, I will write by candlelight, moonlight, no light. If I lose paper and ink, I will write in blood on forgotten walls. I will write always. I will capture nights all over the world and bring them to you."

-- Henry Rollins
