Beautiful YA Book Covers pt2

Oh, you didn't think my last post was it, did you? Please. There's so many more.

This is one of my favorites. Its visually attractive, at first, with a curious kind of design that makes you take a closer look. And once you do, suddenly you realize there's so much going on--it's unique, it has a self-contained mystery.

Plus I love the contrast within the girl herself: blond hair, black dress; hands clasped behind her back, yet one foot still in the motion of taking a step. And best of all? It fits the premise.

I adore this one visually, but it gives me the impression of demons or psychologic torment, whereas the book description sounds more like a vague paranormal with an amnesia twist. Perhaps after reading the book, this cover would make more sense?

Not a personal favorite, but I like it a lot. It's very arresting and you can guess right away it's dystopian. It doesn't feel lacking in color, either.

I'm not sure what attracts me to this one so much. I just know it stood out. It has a romantic, magical, and yet contemporary feel. And it fits the premise well--a girl who remembers the future, but forgets as soon as the event happens. The reviews are mixed so far but the cover makes me want to give this a chance.

I love how simple this is, yet how it represents the book description so well. There's a sense of abandonment, and she's all alone in it, as if being overtaken. It doesn't explicitly say "music" which is a huge part of the book's premise, but I feel like that sense of music comes through anyway.

My only nitpick is the "O" in "Virtuosity." I've seen that done way too many times to represent a wedding ring in romances. It's pretty, but it doesn't fit.

And now I want to showcase another cool trend: cover art that's actual art. I've been seeing more and more of this lately; there's Laini Taylor's books (her most widely known was Lips Touch,) then there's Janice Hardy's books, and Lisa Mantchev. I think this kind of cover art is making a comeback, and I've collected a few to post. Your thoughts?

Not a fan of the text, but the art is gorgeous, and I get a real sense of both wonder and mystery. An ocean, solid land in the distance...and islands floating in the sky. Really well done.

Lisa Mantchev's Theatre Illuminata books have had gorgeous covers from start to finish. This one was done so well. The little pixies give off a glow that contrasts with the silvery sheen of the girl. Lovely to look at as well as capturing the mood of the book description well.

That's all for today. I have one more post's worth of covers, and I've saved some of my favorites for then, so I can't wait. What about you guys? Any favorites here? What do you think about the influx of art on covers?

Truly and always,
-Creative A

These are awesome, but As I Wake ... Gha!!! That cover makes me want to buy the book, frame it, and just look at it all day long. Same with The Water Wars. Brilliant! Artists impress me to no end.
